Education for Ministry is a program of study created by the University of the South's School of Theology.  Every baptized person is called to ministry.  As the emphasis on lay ministry has grown within the church, the goal of EfM is to develop an informed and knowledgeable laity through education.  The focus
of the program is on living life as ministry.

Education for Ministry participants study the entire span of the Christian tradition from the beginning to present times.  Emphasis is on learning about biblical exegesis and interpretation, systematic theology, church history, ethics, liturgics, and ascetical theology.

The academic side of EfM is only one part of the class.  Students gather in small learning communities and apply their reading to their lives through a process called Theological Reflection.  The group also shares worship together.

EfM is a four year program.  Class members sign up for one year at a time.  Year one covers the Old Testament; year two is about the New Testament.  Year three's emphasis is on church history, and year four presents theological choices.  Read more about EFM here.

A new session begins each year after Round-up in September until the continues into early June.  If you are interested in joining the next session, please contact one of our current Mentors, Dale Hilding or Mary Thouvenal.
