Adult Christian Formation - Course of the Month

Similar to a book study, we all work on our own studying an online course from our online school.  Then, the second Sunday of each month we gather together during coffee hour to reflect and discuss.  If you have a topic you'd like to suggest for future discussions, please email the church office.  During Lent, we will gather each Sunday during coffee hour to discuss the sections we covered that week.  The course is designed so that we cover 2 sections each week.

Economic Inequality and the Church with Trinity Institute

About this course
Perhaps the greatest challenge of our age revolves around the growing gap between the haves and the have nots.

Vast inequalities rob us of opportunity and spur violence and poverty. How should the Church respond? What should we be thinking about and doing? In this series of lectures, Juliet Schor, Michael Bowling, and Malcolm Brown talk about the problem and offer some ways forward.

Malcolm Brown, director of the Mission and Public Affairs Division for the Church of England, argues that economics is the Church's business and tells how the C of E is setting up credit unions in local parishes. Juliet Schor, Professor of Sociology at Boston College, tells how increasing concern around economic inequality as well as environmental sustainability, have spurred new trends and hopeful responses. And Michael Bowling, pastor of Englewood Christian Church in Indianapolis tells the story of how his inner-city congregation has made educational equality a priority, which can inspire other churches to follow his example.

For Groups
This course is designed for group study. We've formatted the material so that you can begin at the next step - then pause at the end of each video presentation and talk about what you've learned. Pick and choose the videos you want or proceed in the sequence we've designed - your call.

There are several video presentations included in this course. They are longer than our usual courses and average around from 8-10 minutes each. You are encouraged to preview and select which presentations are most appropriate for your context. While we have arranged them in a specific order, feel free to pick and choose as you please.
